Attorney R. Julio Aleman Secures Dismissal of One Count as Trial Is Rescheduled

Attorney R. Julio Aleman, an award-winning Maryland criminal defense lawyer known for handling serious criminal, traffic, and protective-order matters, is representing Dr. Brian Motz in a Frederick County case that remains active and closely controlled by the court. At a recent hearing, the judge postponed Motz’s second-degree assault trial after the State reported it had received new body camera footage that must be provided to the defense for review. The trial is now scheduled for March 12, according to online court records.

During the same court appearance, Aleman successfully moved to dismiss one assault count tied to a September 2024 allegation, with the Court finding it fell outside the general one-year statute of limitations. Aleman has stated that his client asserts his innocence, and the defense is preparing to evaluate the newly produced footage and continue developing its response to the allegations. The judge also entered a protective order limiting the dissemination of the body camera video, allowing it to be reviewed for case preparation but restricting copying or sharing beyond the parties, their investigative teams, and counsel without court approval.
